2025 Playback: A Year in Review
Avneet Takhar
A year of strengthening our Peoples
In 2025, Indigenous digital sovereignty continued to gain strength across Turtle Island, and we were honoured to support this movement alongside the many Nations and members who trust OneFeather every day. The heart of our work lies in strengthening Nation governance, lifting up community voices and providing digital tools and services that align with Indigenous laws and traditions.
Advancing self-determination
This year, OneFeather supported 199 voting events, including elections, treaty votes and land code processes—each one a powerful expression of self-determination. These votes led to positive outcomes, enabling greater control over Nation governance, land and environmental stewardship, economic development, and upholding sovereign leadership.
OneFeather headquarters processed more than 22,000 paper ballots, and over 57,500 digital ballots, each one reflecting the voice of a community member shaping their Nation’s future. These moments remind us why strong, secure and Indigenous-focused governance tools are essential to sovereignty in this digital age.

Upholding rights and entitlements
Access to rights and entitlements also remained a core focus. Over 48,000 members created Status Card Applications with a 98 percent success rate. Their stories illustrate the impact of technology created with Indigenous users in mind. Jesurun from Tsawout First Nation shared that renewal was once “a very timely complicated process” but is now “user-friendly.” Margaret from Oneida Nation of the Thames described our support as “compassionate” and said OneFeather “eliminated the roadblocks.” Sandra from Henvey Inlet First Nation told us she had been dreading renewal, until she found our online process which was “super easy.” Kaylee from Black River First Nation saved a “2½-hour trip” by applying from home.
We remain dedicated to removing time and travel barriers and creating inclusive pathways for Indigenous Peoples to access their benefits.

Protecting Indigenous data
As stewards, safeguarding community data is a paramount responsibility and remains our top priority. This year we achieved SOC 2 Type II compliance, which enables us to continue providing world-class security and privacy—because your trust in us is fundamental to everything we do.
Adding features, you requested
We build solutions that reflect community needs. To support and strengthen Nation governance, we developed our Members-Only Document Sharing feature, based on feedback received from the Nations we serve. This provides Nations with a safe and reliable way to share members-only documents and information.
Growing community impact
The Indigenous economy grows through uplifting one another. We are proud to have teamed up with businesses who collectively advance sovereignty and shared prosperity, such as Shawish Market and Indigenous Box, virtual marketplaces that showcase Indigenous vendors on their platforms, and merchandisers Brandigenous who collaborate with businesses, expanding the Indigenous ecosystem and producing the swag our community loves!

Throughout 2025, we contributed to national conversations about Indigenous innovation and digital rights, collaborated with partners across the country, supported Indigenous entrepreneurs, and welcomed several new OneFeather team members who grow our ability to serve Nations meaningfully.

Walking Forward Together into 2026
Next year, we will continue expanding tools and services that reflect Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing. Our focus remains on providing offerings that uphold culture and traditions, improve access to rights and entitlements, and support Nations in governing with confidence and sovereignty. Stay tuned for exciting developments coming in the Spring—subscribe to our newsletter to stay in the loop.
As we close out the year, we raise our hands to our community, to the Nations who guide this work, and to the partners who walk alongside us, including Raven Indigenous Capital Partners and First Nations Technology Council. Thank you for your trust, your feedback and your stories.
Gila’kasla, happy holidays, and we look forward to stepping into 2026 with you. 🪶🧡
